Why do we feature this page so prominently for a man who is on a 2-year hiatus from live appearances?  Because he harbors this fantasy like a castaway harbors his little driftwood raft.... right up until he enters the open water and drowns.

Cody & Evan trim it down and deliver an energetic musical rodeo of unfamiliar tunes and new takes on old favorites while Tim takes a night off for personal reflection (I believe he's spending a meditation weekend at a nearby monastery of rock and roll).  No sweat, as these two percussive performers compensate with zany rhythmic interdimensionality unheard of in these realms.  This kind of mind-blowery is best experienced accompanied by a bottle of beer, glass of wine, or jug of blended mocha.  Fortunately, the Elevated can oblige all three options.  Family-friendly and open to the entire public.

Some days, you eat the burger.  Other days, the burger eats you.  And then there are the days where the burger goes all Keyser Soze on you and eats you, your family, everyone who owes you money, everyone who ever did business with you, your french fries, your will to live, and a piece of cherry pie.  A.  La.  Mode.  All I'm saying is, don't take that burger lightly.  Don't turn your back on it or give it your PIN or anything.

Cody & The Men Your Mama Warned You About kick it up a notch in this full-band 45-minute set, and then Evan gets a glazed, berserk look in his eye and chants, "More notches!  More notches!"  The waitress brings him nachos, but he won't be satisfied with that.  No, he won't be satisfied until your booty is sore from overshaking.  He's like that, see.

GIG Monday December 28th, 2009: 8:30-10:30PM

The Goodfoot Sonic Forum (21+)

2845 SE Stark, Portland 97214

We don't normally plug open stage appearances, but this one will be special.  If you've been digging recent video evidence of what that Evan Whitacre guy can do with just brushes and a djembe, you will be beside yourself to see him play the real McCoy sitting slot in a full kit.  It turns Tim into Teen Wolf --I won't say it twice.    You might have to inquire after his instrument!  Cody & The Men Your Mama Warned You About are slated to play 20 minutes in the early bracket (8:30-10:30).  This show is 21+ because those beats are too flat-out *nasty* for impressionable minors.  $1 cover.

This would be a good time for Improv Everywhere (tm) to suddenly show up and give me the gig of a lifetime.  And a space heater.  Cody performs a solo acoustic set while you shop for last-minute stocking stuffers.... wait.... what's this?  A $5 download card for Least Significant Failures?!  That fits perfectly inside a stocking!  It's a holiday miracle!!

GIG Saturday December 19th, 2009: 7-9PM

Elevated Coffee

5261 NE M L King Blvd Portland 97211

Climb aboard Cody's zany futuristic shiny mylar balloon and get yourself some attention through inappropriate *elevation*.  They're scrambling helicopters as we speak.... What?  Too soon?  Too dated?  Already?  Sheesh.  Whatever --rock and roll smooths all lumps.

Anyhoo, Cody and bassist Tim Krajcar *up* the stakes with some holiday tunes to *raise* your spirits.  Guitar, bass, piano, and s-c-r-u-m-p-t-i-o-u-s espresso.  Family-friendly (since we apparently won't have the balloon after all).

UPDATE: Cody, Tim, and Evan will be joined for a handful of tunes by Ama Bentley of Vivian's Keeper on lead guitar.  Ama will also perform a short 3-song set of his own material with Cody on djembe in the middle of the evening.

Update: Cody will be joined by percussionist Bill McDonald --whose drum isn't really metal as previously reported (but who's to say his attitude isn't?)-- and bassist Tim Krajcar for the entire 2-hour set.  Cody waxes in eerily similar fashion, "he's like the Larry Elwood of Portland --unflappable, solid, roll-with-the-punches groove machine.  Plus his drum really is made of metal.  Wait?  What?  It's not?  Who keeps telling me that?"
