Why do we feature this page so prominently for a man who is on a 2-year hiatus from live appearances?  Because he harbors this fantasy like a castaway harbors his little driftwood raft.... right up until he enters the open water and drowns.

Wine tasting, awesome coffee, superb atmosphere, beautiful acoustics, and the best flippin' homemade desserts of any coffee shop in a 50-mile radius.  For crying out loud, I'm begging you to see what I'm talking about.  Should I really have to beg you to have a soft, delicious cookie?  I didn't think so.  Plus, I'll be doing by blah-blah sing-song thing in the corner.  P.S., pester them on Facebook to make red velvet cupcakes --they've kind of cut me off, but you're fresh and unsuspicious.

Sherwood may have felt left out of the prior week's customer appreciation rockathon in Tigard, but calm down --don't make the sad face.  It's just because the laws of physics don't allow us to play two different 7-11 stores at the same time.  I know: Heisenberg's a jerk; that much is certain.  We'll make it up to you with another rockathon at the Sherwood 7-11.  Jungle Jim & Alex Arrowsmith (of Shaky Hands & Spookies fame) again join us as the guest rhythm section.

7-11 (Near Southridge HS) Rock-athon

9510 SW 125th, Beaverton 97008

Cody & The Men Your Mama Warned You About --joined by special guest Jonathan Chase filling in on bass-- rock the 7-11 across from Southridge High School all... day... long... because (probably sit down for this) neither Southridge High School nor 7-11 has EVER had any official scat-rock, since scat-rock records have been kept (c. 1894).  Therefore, the powers that be have declared that the harvest, the economy, and our nation's most precious resource (The Children) receive immediate aid and intervention in the form of a 5-hour marathon gig by the Northwest's premier scat-rock ensemble.  With the luxury of extra time to cook all that piping-hot music, expect extended versions, instrument switching, new songs from Steve, and deeper explorations of Cody's 400-song catalog than ever heard before.  The scat-rock recordkeeper's pain is your gain.  Swing by, enjoy a trademark Slurpee, and participate in history-in-the-making!

FAMIPALOOZA: 2 GREAT SHOWS SAME DAY

Miss those heady college days when Perry Farrell told you what to do in his weird, squeaky voice?  Pine no more, for FAMIPALOOZA is nigh!  On 8/27, you can combine your three favorite things (the first being scat-rock) in one enormous family-friendly all-day* fun time (*including an appropriately significant pause).  Scat-rock, farmers markets, food carts.  That's right: I just spun your head.  The extravaganza begins at 11:00, when Cody & A Man Or Two Your Mama Warned You About play at the Slocum Theater, right in the heart of Vancouver's downtown farmers market.  Then you take a quick break for a salmon & a microbrew somewhere of your choosing --I'm not the boss of you.  Then the action resumes with a second, early evening show by the full band at 6:00 hosted by Off The Griddle at the A La Carts Food Pavillion.  Are you off your rocker with this crazy energy yet, man?  Now go back and read this whole blurb again in your best Christopher Walken voice.  You're welcome.

Slocum House Theater (11-1)

605 Esther St Vancouver, WA 98660

I want to get serious for a moment and talk to you about a problem many of us Northwesterners are too embarassed to admit plagues us: Farmers Market Overload.  Experts from the John Tesh Institute say that as the summer season drags on, as many as 1 in every 4 purveyors of Farmers Markets may be prone to the sudden onset of a severe panic attack brought on by the unfamiliar fruits and vegetables confronting them at local farm stands.  But never fear; the Slocum House Theater, in the heart of Esther Shore park, has arranged for panicky shoppers to have a sensory safehouse during market hours, with music graciously donated by Cody Weathers & The Men Your Mama Warned You About.  Hide Local!

UPDATE: This show was cancelled.  Consult the Oracle at Delphi for further insight.

Off The Griddle (A La Carts Food Pavillion) (6-8PM)

4926 SE Division, Portland 97215

Do you like awesome things, outdoors, without all the flim-flam?  I mean: who doesn't?  Cody & The Men Your Mama Warned You About invite you to enjoy the last gasps of "summer" in resplendent Portland glory, sampling the food carts and listening to a little local scat-rock fusion.

UPDATE: This show was cancelled by the government.  Seriously.  You write the city council and tell them to raise the scat-rock ceiling and stop all this political posturing.

Park Place Coffee

1288 SE 182nd, Gresham 97233

It's an old fashioned guitar duel (at totally appropriate volume and intensity levels for the venue in question).  Which multi-instrumentalist not originally a guitarist is, in fact, the better guitarist: Cody or Tim?  At long last, aficionados of The Men Your Mama Warned You About will have their answer.  Well, some --including Cody-- would argue that the answer is obviously already Tim.  But Cody's no *genius* and this debate can only be settled with lightning-quick reflexes and soulful licks the likes of which Tim routinely supplies and Cody has never been observed to produce.  It'll be one for the ages!

Cody & Evan trim it down and deliver an energetic musical rodeo of unfamiliar tunes and new takes on old favorites while Tim takes a night off for personal reflection (I believe he's spending a meditation weekend at a nearby monastery of rock and roll).  No sweat, as these two percussive performers compensate with zany rhythmic interdimensionality unheard of in these realms.  This kind of mind-blowery is best experienced accompanied by a bottle of beer, glass of wine, or jug of blended mocha.  Fortunately, the Elevated can oblige all three options.  Family-friendly and open to the entire public.

Climb aboard Cody's zany futuristic shiny mylar balloon and get yourself some attention through inappropriate *elevation*.  They're scrambling helicopters as we speak.... What?  Too soon?  Too dated?  Already?  Sheesh.  Whatever --rock and roll smooths all lumps.

Anyhoo, Cody and bassist Tim Krajcar *up* the stakes with some holiday tunes to *raise* your spirits.  Guitar, bass, piano, and s-c-r-u-m-p-t-i-o-u-s espresso.  Family-friendly (since we apparently won't have the balloon after all).

UPDATE: Cody, Tim, and Evan will be joined for a handful of tunes by Ama Bentley of Vivian's Keeper on lead guitar.  Ama will also perform a short 3-song set of his own material with Cody on djembe in the middle of the evening.

Update: Cody will be joined by percussionist Bill McDonald --whose drum isn't really metal as previously reported (but who's to say his attitude isn't?)-- and bassist Tim Krajcar for the entire 2-hour set.  Cody waxes in eerily similar fashion, "he's like the Larry Elwood of Portland --unflappable, solid, roll-with-the-punches groove machine.  Plus his drum really is made of metal.  Wait?  What?  It's not?  Who keeps telling me that?"

Cody entertains and hopes his tiny daughters do not take control of the visiting fire truck at the 5th annual Nick Shannon Breathe Easy Festival promoting asthma awareness. From Portland, take 99E to Jennings, east on Jennings past Oatfield, turn right (south) on Valley View Road, two blocks down and there you go --at Nick Shannon Memorial park. Kid-friendly event features hot dogs, playground, sandbox, activities, the aforementioned under-defended fire truck, and many many more diversions to keep your mind off of all that pesky acoustic scat-rock over there under the tree. Donations to the cause welcome.

UPDATE: Cody will be joined by percussionist Bill McDonald (of Portland's Budget Airlines) for the duration of his set.  Cody waxes, "he's like the Derek Sanchez of Portland --unflappable, solid, no-rehearsal-necessary groove machine.  Plus his drum is made of metal."
Through June 30th
